On Sunday, July 22nd, Talented Youth Development, Inc. (TYDI) held its board installation ceremony during the Sparkle Empowerment Program for Girls Mentor Appreciation event. Sparkle is one of the programs facilitated by TYDI. The event was held at the American Legion Post #854 in Valley Stream where over 60 people were in attendance. Adrienne Eadie-Adams,
Education Chairperson, Community Board 12, Borough of Queens, New York was the special guest speaker who spoke about the importance of mentoring.
The newly installed board members include Kimberly Thomas, Executive Director, Carline Dumerlin-Folks, Milagros Vicente, and Natalie Nelson. All board members either live in or have ties to Valley Stream and will be an amazing asset to the girls of the program and community. The board members were sworn in by Village Trustee Dermond Thomas.

The purpose of TYDI/Sparkle is to develop and enhance teen girl's leadership qualities, encourage volunteerism, and self-pride while exposing the participants to philanthropy, etiquette workshops, and educational opportunities. Over the last year, eight young ladies from Valley Stream middle and high schools have participated in the following activities:
Bowling for Breast Cancer
Resume Writing Workshop Shop
Pizza Parties/Various Community Service Projects
